The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is a national advocacy organization that takes direction and fulfills mandates as directed by First Nations in-Assembly through resolutions. The AFN seeks to advance First Nations Inherent and Treaty Rights through the development of policy, public education, and the co-development of legislation to build First Nations capacity.

Position Overview: The HR Generalist will provide support to the HR department and the Director of HR in all aspects of human resources management, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, disability leave management, employee relations, payroll, and compliance. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources.

Key Responsibilities: Manage the full-cycle recruitment process including interviews, background checks, and job offers; advise and support managers and staff on HR policies, employee performance, and conflict resolution; coordinate employee onboarding and orientation; ensure compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training and support career growth; assist with performance reviews and retention efforts; administer employee benefits and manage payroll administration; facilitate offboarding including exit interviews.

Who can apply: Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; 5 years of progressively senior HR experience, preferably within the non-profit or First Nations sectors; Certified Human Resources designation (CHRP or CHRL) an asset; strong knowledge of Canadian labor laws including the Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Act, and Occupational Health and Safety; proficiency with HRIS systems (e.g., Bamboo HR, HR Downloads) and MS Office; excellent communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills; bilingual (English/French) an asset.
