National Coordinator -Sri Lanka
Location: Colombo- Sri Lanka: Hours: 40 hours per week

Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA) is an Asian global labour and social alliance across garment- producing countries in Asia. Founded in 2007, AFWA builds unity among Asian garment workers' unions to hold global fashion brands accountable for labour rights.
AFWA is currently seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time National Coordinator Sri Lanka. This dynamic role will require extensive interstate field travel, providing a unique opportunity to engage with diverse stakeholders. As the National Coordinator, you will collaborate closely with trade unions, civil society organizations, and various stakeholders in Sri Lanka. Responsibilities
Strengthening the Alliance:
- Actively coordinate and support AFWA partners in Sri Lanka through capacity building in training, research, advocacy, and campaign activities.
- Facilitate strong collaboration among AFWA partners at the country level and coordinate joint initiatives.
- Maintain effective communication with AFWA partners in Sri Lanka.
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies including grant proposal writing and donor engagement.
Expanding the Alliance
- Identify potential new partners, including unions, NGOs, labor rights groups, and civil society organizations in Sri Lanka.
- Foster relationships and networks to strengthen collaboration and broaden the scope of AFWA's work
Research and Training
- Conduct field research related to worker rights, particularly concerning garment workers.
- Prepare insightful research briefs, reports, and presentations based on field research findings.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of training programs and
- capacity-building activities for partner organizations.
Representation and Public Engagement
- Represent AFWA publicly at the national level, including speaking engagements,
- media interviews, and public forums.
- Collaborate closely with AFWA's communication team to develop effective social
- media outreach on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the AFWA website.
Global Coordination
- Organize and participate in national and international conferences, meetings, and strategic events to further AFWA's global reach.
- Ensure close coordination within a global team, working closely with regional and
- international coordinators.
- Provide detailed and timely reports on activities at the country level
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Master's degree in Political Science, Labour Studies, Human Rights, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Industrial Relations, Law, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree with significant relevant professional experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in labour rights, worker organizing, trade union work, human rights, gender justice, advocacy, or related fields.
- Demonstrated commitment to labour rights, women's rights, social justice, and worker empowerment.
- Proven experience in partnership management, coalition building, coordination, and collaborative project implementation with trade unions, civil society organizations, and grassroots groups.
- Strong research, analytical, and report-writing skills, with the ability to produce research briefs, policy papers, and advocacy materials.
- Experience in fundraising, grant proposal development, donor engagement, and project management is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and public speaking skills, including experience representing organizations in public forums, media engagements, and stakeholder meetings.
- Fluency in Tamil and Sinhala, with strong English speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse regional and international team.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively within Sri Lanka and internationally as required.
- Experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, etc.) and supporting digital advocacy campaigns is an advantage.
- Knowledge of global supply chains, living wage campaigns, labour standards, freedom of association, collective bargaining, and the garment industry in Sri Lanka and South Asia is highly desirable.
