Monetized Publishing Platform (MPP)
Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to strengthen the editorial and operational capacity of the newsroom team to manage the Monetized Publishing Platform effectively and independently. Through mentorship and practical guidance, the mentor will support the newsroom team in establishing clear editorial workflows, verification practices, and editorial coordination mechanisms that ensure consistent and high-quality content production across participating platforms.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide mentorship and training sessions to SMF editorial and content management staff.
* Strengthen the team's ability to manage platform content independently and coordinate contributions from multiple platforms.
* Support staff in improving writing, editing, and content structuring practices.
* Guide the development of a unified editorial policy and style guide for the joint newsroom and platform contributors.
* Support the harmonization of editorial tone and writing style across reports produced by SMF member platforms.
* Train staff in fact-checking methodologies and verification tools to address misinformation and ensure accuracy.
* Support the development of internal verification procedures for content produced in complex or hard-to-access environments.
* Guide staff in applying conflict-sensitive reporting approaches and peace journalism principles.
* Promote responsible editorial practices that avoid hate speech, incitement, or political polarization, while maintaining professional neutrality.
* Provide recommendations to strengthen editorial collaboration among SMF member platforms.
* Support the integration of data presentation tools such as infographics and structured data tables in digital reporting.
Expected Deliverables
* A unified editorial policy and style guide for the SMF joint newsroom and platform contributors.
* Training and mentorship sessions for SMF editorial and platform management staff.
* Practical guidance on editorial workflows, fact-checking processes, and collaborative publishing practices.
* Recommendations to strengthen content coordination and editorial standards across SMF member platforms.
Required Qualifications
* Minimum 10 years of professional experience serving as Editor-in-Chief or managing central newsrooms.
* Demonstrated ability to manage remote editorial teams and coordinate content production across multiple platforms with diverse editorial approaches.
* Strong professional writing and editing skills aligned with international editorial standards, with the ability to harmonize editorial styles and ensure consistent, high-quality reporting.
* Comprehensive knowledge of the roots and developments of the conflict in Sudan since 2023, including humanitarian implications and related violations.
* Proven ability to apply peace journalism principles, focusing on conflict analysis from a humanitarian perspective while avoiding hate speech, incitement, or political polarization.
* Proficiency in fact-checking tools and verification techniques to address misinformation and ensure the credibility of published content.
* Strong commitment to ethical publishing standards, including the protection of vulnerable sources and responsible reporting in conflict contexts.
* Demonstrated experience in developing editorial policies and style guidelines for collaborative newsrooms or multi-platform publishing environments.
* Proven experience delivering training or mentorship programs for editorial teams.
* Experience managing digital advocacy campaigns and guiding content to effectively engage local and international audiences.
* Strong familiarity with Sudanese geography and administrative terminology, preferably aligned with internationally recognized references such as Reuters style guidelines.
* Ability to guide teams in preparing infographics and structured data tables to enhance digital reporting.
Desirable
* Good understanding of Sudan context, and fluency in Arabic
* Experience in online platform management
* Editorial mentorship and fact checking experience
