TRAFFIC, the world's leading authority on trade in wild species, is seeking a Director/Head of Transformational Philanthropy to lead a new fundraising programme at a pivotal moment for the organisation. Salary: circa £75,000 – £100,000 depending on experience. Location: Cambridge, UK (Hybrid); flexible, remote-first arrangements will also be considered for the right candidate.
This is an opportunity to help build a fundraising programme rather than run an established one. TRAFFIC is looking for someone with an entrepreneurial approach, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to translate complex, technical work into a compelling story that moves funders to invest at a transformational level. Candidates may be experienced development professionals wanting to work more entrepreneurially and create and implement a new strategy, or earlier-career fundraisers with a track record of securing major gifts who are ready to step into a senior leadership role for the first time. Two job titles are being considered for this reason.
For fifty years, TRAFFIC's research, data and analysis have shaped how governments, businesses, law enforcement and international conventions respond to illegal and unsustainable trade in wildlife, timber, fish and plants, while sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of households that depend on legal trade. TRAFFIC is now moving from a project-by-project model towards a bolder proposition built around a Global Intelligence Hub and Systems Influence, using AI, data and next-generation analytics.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will grow and diversify TRAFFIC's income, with a particular focus on major gifts. You will lead the global fundraising strategy, and build and personally manage a portfolio of major and principal gift relationships with high-net-worth individuals, trusts, foundations and corporate partners.
