The European Institute of Peace (EIP) is an independent organisation based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, working collaboratively with parties to conflict, those representing people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, and European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community. EIP provides practical experience, technical expertise and policy advice on conflict resolution through analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement such as inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

EIP is looking for a trainee to support the Policy team and contribute to upcoming European affairs initiatives. The Policy team's main areas are political economy; gender; environment & climate; and European affairs. The role offers hands-on exposure to policy research, programme development and EU engagement.

The trainee reports to the Senior Policy Officer for European Affairs and will: support administration of the European Affairs programme including budget management; conduct desk research, literature reviews and policy analysis across the four priority areas; support development and implementation of upcoming EU mediation initiatives; support programme development including drafting proposals and budgets; contribute to monitoring and evaluation frameworks; produce concise policy briefs, factsheets and memos; provide editing, data-cleaning and presentation support; and support organisation of events and consultations.

Requirements: ideally 6 months - 1 year of work experience in a similar role (recent Master's graduates welcome); excellent command of English (other EU languages a plus); strong research, writing and analytical skills; comfort reviewing legal texts and budgetary information; keen interest in conflict prevention and global affairs; IT literacy with good Excel knowledge; and legal entitlement to work in Belgium (EU citizen or holder of a Belgian work permit). Paid internship contract at EUR 1,040 per month for 6 months with possible extension, plus meal vouchers, transport and telework allowance, and SIM card; 40h/week with 6 RTT days and up to 3 telework days a week. Start date: September 2026.

HOW TO APPLY:
Please submit your application using the webform at https://vacancies.eip.org/jobs/apply/121. The hiring team will review all applications after the closing date of 02/08/2026 (midnight CEST).
