The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been registered in Bangladesh since 2013 and, in response to the Rohingya influx, runs an integrated programme of site management, shelter/NFI and protection support, with an area office in Cox's Bazar and a country office in Dhaka.
The General Protection Officer – Case Management ensures high-quality implementation of case management activities in line with the DRC protection programme in Bangladesh. The officer manages individual protection cases with technical guidance from the Protection Manager and Coordinator, and day-to-day supervision from the Protection Team Leader. The role also involves building collaborative relationships with humanitarian actors, governance structures and other DRC teams, representing DRC in field-level coordination platforms, and ensuring compliance with donor requirements and DRC policies on reporting, accountability and data protection.
Key responsibilities:
- Assess individual protection risks, provide Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) and make timely referrals to service providers.
- Identify urgent cases under DRC's Case Management and IPA SOPs and accompany clients to service points where needed.
- Train and support field-level protection volunteers.
- Develop and implement work plans with the Protection Team Leader and meet assigned targets with high service quality.
- Maintain accurate, confidential case documentation and protection data in line with data protection protocols.
- Contribute to internal and donor reporting, including protection trends, challenges and best practices.
- Build relationships with authorities, humanitarian actors and community-based structures; collaborate with Protection Monitoring, Community-Based Protection and GBV teams.
- Represent DRC in coordination forums and sector meetings.
- Comply with DRC operational procedures, safety rules and Code of Conduct.
Requirements:
- 2-3 years of relevant humanitarian experience, including at least 2 years in the protection sector in the Rohingya refugee response.
- Strong understanding of protection case management, community-based protection and protection monitoring.
- Prior experience with an international or local NGO or UN agency.
- Proficiency in Chittagonian and Rohingya dialects; fluent English and Bengali.
- Basic narrative reporting skills; willingness to work in field environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data tools such as Kobo Toolbox or ActivityInfo.
- University degree in social sciences (Social Work, Anthropology, Psychology, Development Studies, Law or similar); Master's preferred.
