The post holder will provide support to the WASH Officer in implementing quality WASH programming - constructions, NFIs, hygiene promotion, and upscaling WASH'em services in communities in Garissa/Wajir/Mandera/Tana River. The post is oriented towards WASH emergency response in the context of El Nino preparedness, with integration across nutrition, food security, health, education and child protection. Key responsibilities include: assisting the WASH Officer in supervising construction/rehabilitation of WASH facilities (animal troughs, tank platforms, elevated tower tanks, reticulation systems, borehole equipping and solarization); holding project site meetings with contractors and community representatives; planning and organizing hygiene promotion and distribution of WASH NFIs (jerricans, buckets, soap, PUR, Aquatabs); maintaining WASH documentation; supervising contractors and validating quality of work; verifying construction meets quality standards through checklists; weekly reporting of project indicators; writing daily reports to the WASH Officer; and ensuring integration of gender, child protection, HIV and environment considerations into WASH activities. Requirements: a degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or Public Health and Sanitation; minimum 2 years professional experience in WASH infrastructure construction in humanitarian or development contexts; experience of project management and community participation approaches; knowledge of monitoring and evaluation; strong written and spoken English, with ability to communicate in English/Kiswahili/Somali.
