The Protection Officer oversees day-to-day implementation of protection activities in Tawilah, leading protection monitoring, case identification, and referral processes through field visits, assessments, and community sensitization. The role ensures timely, accountable delivery of protection services in line with NRC policies and work plans, while supervising Technical Assistants and coordinating with partners, local authorities, and other NRC teams. It also involves reporting, M&E support, and capacity-building for the field protection team.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation of protection monitoring, case identification and referrals according to tools, SOPs and the annual work plan in Tawilah.
- Ensure projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, and monitor beneficiary selection to ensure accountability and transparency.
- Lead regular visits to settlements to conduct focus group discussions, observations and quantitative surveys feeding into protection monitoring.
- Identify protection cases during field visits, refer cases in need and follow up on referrals.
- Implement the protection from violence project portfolio according to the plan of action.
- Prepare status reports as required by management and ensure proper filing of documents.
- Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines.
- Suggest capacity building measures for the protection field team to the coordinator.
Requirements:
- 2-3 years' experience as protection staff with knowledge of case management and case identification in a humanitarian/recovery context.
- Experience working in complex and volatile contexts.
- Documented results related to the position's responsibilities.
- Knowledge of English, Arabic and other local languages.
- Political and cultural awareness and good understanding of the displacement context.
- University or technical school degree (social sciences preferred, e.g. education, political or social science, international relations, law, journalism, gender studies, human rights).
- Preferable experience in NGO project implementation; good communication and teamwork skills; flexibility and ability to cope with stressful situations; computer literacy including smartphones and MS Office.
- Knowledge of multi-sectoral humanitarian response (Protection, WASH, Shelter, emergency distribution) and protection programming is of benefit.
