ClientEarth is a non-profit that uses the power of the law to bring about systemic environmental change. It is looking for a lawyer or law and policy advisor to join its Resources, Energy and Mobility (REM) System Group in Europe as parental leave cover. The group supports a sustainability transition that allows present and future generations to live well within planetary boundaries. This role will focus on local, city-level transformation, including urban mobility systems where reducing car dependence is a key goal. It will also extend across a wide range of sectors and sustainability issues, and may include other areas of ClientEarth's European programme.
Main duties:
- Support the development and implementation of agreed litigation and advocacy projects within the team's strategic framework, with a likely focus on local, city-level governance and urban mobility in Europe, working closely with the Mobility Team Lead and relevant colleagues.
- Carry out legal research and analysis of complex information concerning relevant laws, policies and political developments.
- Collaborate with partners, including NGOs and civil society organisations, technical experts and external lawyers, as well as policymakers and decision makers, in a wide range of litigation and advocacy contexts. This includes exchanging information and supporting the development and delivery of project-level strategy, with guidance from senior colleagues.
Requirements:
- A degree in law and/or a professional legal practice qualification.
- Experience working on urban mobility or local, city-level policy and governance, in a professional or academic context.
- Experience working in an international organisation, NGO, charity, law firm and/or for government.
- Familiarity with environmental, human rights, administrative and/or public law.
Terms: fixed-term, full-time, hybrid, based in Brussels. Compensation is €4,521.21 per month. Candidates must already have the legal right to work in the country where the role is based. ClientEarth values diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds.
