ClientEarth is a non-profit that uses the power of the law to bring about systemic change. It informs, implements and enforces the law, advises decision-makers on policy, builds legal expertise, and ensures citizens' access to the laws that defend them.
The Head of Resources, Energy and Mobility (REM) Japan and Southeast Asia is accountable for delivering transformational change on Resources, Energy and Mobility. The role also covers its intersections with three other systems: Food, Oceans and Land Use (FOLU); Financial and Economic Systems; and Environmental Rights and Rule of Law. As a Regional System Head, the post-holder leads a multi-disciplinary team across London, Brussels, Tokyo, Manila, Jakarta, Sydney and the US. They draw on ClientEarth's legal and jurisdictional expertise to create impact.
The position operates under the wider mandate of the Acting Associate Director for Japan and Southeast Asia. The post-holder leads initiatives focused on Japan and Southeast Asia while collaborating globally and embodying the principles of "One ClientEarth". They also role-model ClientEarth's values, rally colleagues around a unified global strategy, and contribute to regional and global programme strategy and decision-making. This ensures insights from Japan and Southeast Asia inform wider organisational priorities.
This is a 6-month, fixed-term, full-time contract. The role is fully remote, based in Jakarta, and reports to Tim Guanzon. Compensation is Rp625,000,000 per year.
Main duties:
- Define Regional System Strategy: lead annual strategy implementation development during annual planning for their system in their region.
- Regional System Delivery: line manage the Japan Representative, Lead Lawyers, Senior Lawyers and Programme Manager in the REM team. Ensure delivery of REM workstreams, projects and activities in Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines and broader Southeast Asia. Use the full range of ClientEarth's tools, including advocacy and other legal interventions, building the field, and supporting local and regional partners.
Role requirements:
- Law degree focusing on Japanese or Southeast Asian law
- Strategic leadership and management experience
- Experience designing and managing programmatic work in the not-for-profit sector, including project, team and financial management across different time zones
