The Head of the World Animal Health Information Department contributes to the leadership brought by WOAH to the transparency of the animal health situation worldwide. They ensure the performance of WAHID activities, leading the team in the collection, verification and dissemination of animal health information provided by Members and non-Members through the World Animal Health Information System (WAHIS), and provide strategic guidance on WAHIS development. Under the authority of the Director General and supervision of the Deputy Director General, the role guides the department's work on animal health data gathering and interpretation, active search of animal disease information, information dissemination, and internal/external coordination. The Head defines the department's roadmap, designs strategic initiatives, reports to the General Directorate and World Assembly, represents WOAH internationally, manages relationships with resource partners and Members, and oversees publication of scientific papers. Leadership duties include translating strategic goals into team objectives, improving procedures, fostering a positive work environment, and participating in staff recruitment and performance appraisal. Specific responsibilities cover monitoring official notifications and reports, intelligence activities on disease early detection, training delivery to WAHIS users, and follow-up on WAHIS development. Requirements: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent; at least 10 years of professional experience with national Veterinary Services or public/private sector including data analysis or M&E in animal health; at least 8 years of management experience; significant international experience. Skills needed include disease surveillance knowledge, excellent English, IT literacy, analytical and project management skills. Additional assets: proficiency in Spanish and/or French, epidemiology, risk assessment, GIS and database management. Full-time fixed-term contract for two years, renewable, starting Q1 2027.
