The ICCT is seeking a Student Assistant (Werkstudent*in) to join the modeling team in its Berlin office. This position provides an opportunity to develop quantitative modeling tools that enable research with real-world impact, reporting to a Model Developer in ICCT's Modeling Center. Responsibilities include developing and adapting Python code across ICCT's suite of models spanning vehicle emissions, economics, and charging infrastructure; preparing, quality-checking, and integrating input datasets; helping run models and visualize and interpret results; contributing to published model documentation; following the team's software development practices; and learning about and contributing to research projects quantifying the impacts of transportation policies on pollutant emissions, energy consumption, air quality, health, or societal costs. Candidates should be enrolled students in the later stages of a Bachelor's degree or in a Master's program in data science, computer science, physics, engineering, or a related field, with strong data analysis skills in Python (pandas, scipy, numpy, matplotlib), strong command of dataframe operations, proficiency in Microsoft Office/Excel, and strong interpersonal and English communication skills. Desirable but not required: experience authoring and documenting complex software, familiarity with environmental and energy challenges in transportation, experience with version control (Git, GitHub), familiarity with PyCharm or other Python IDEs, and proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau. This is a part-time position (10-20 hours/week) alongside university studies, based in ICCT's Berlin office near Bahnhof Zoologischer Garten. The initial contract runs one year, with an option to extend depending on team needs and performance. Hourly remuneration is €16-18 depending on experience and education level.
