Location: Bangkok, Thailand
The Senior Laboratory Officer will provide technical leadership and guidance to support staff and projects for the Department of State-funded Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) Activity for laboratory and diagnostic components in Thailand and Southeast Asia. They will lead and manage development, implementation, and monitoring of strategic and technical initiatives to strengthen laboratory systems and diagnostic capacities, provide technical guidance on building laboratory capacity and improving access to quality diagnostic testing, and work closely with country-level teams, project management, technical providers, and partners to ensure high-quality, reliable laboratory services. Responsibilities include leading development of guidelines and policies for laboratory diagnostic network strengthening, providing technical thought leadership, contributing to project statements of work, work plan development, monitoring and evaluation systems, and technical reporting. Requires a Master's degree in microbiology or related biological sciences field (or bachelor's with 8+ years relevant experience), 6+ years of relevant experience in infectious disease diagnostics and laboratory systems strengthening, prior experience with DOS-funded or other USG-funded projects preferred, extensive knowledge of laboratory practices, diagnostic techniques, quality assurance systems, and laboratory information management systems, and proficiency in English. May supervise junior-level staff and reports to the STRIDES Thailand Associate Director-Technical. Up to 30% domestic travel required.
