Danish Refugee Council is looking for a qualified Protection Officer - Legal for its operations in Jigjiga/Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. Under the line management of the Protection Project Manager, the Legal Officer will undertake protection and legal aid activities within the SIDA Mixed Migration project framework, including legal information dissemination, counselling, assistance, and facilitation of representation to the target population. Main duties include developing and implementing a legal service work plan; conducting rapid assessments of legal needs; disseminating information on legal rights, civil documentation and procedures through mobile protection desks and community outreach; supporting advocacy and policy engagement on legal and policy gaps affecting people on the move; providing legal counselling and assistance; developing IEC materials; facilitating access to legal documentation with government authorities; organizing capacity-building sessions for stakeholders on legal frameworks and referral mechanisms; mapping and updating legal aid and protection service providers along the Eastern migration route; and supporting integrated referral mechanisms. The role also involves regular reporting on project implementation and legal protection activities. Requirements: minimum 3 years' experience in the legal sector, preferably in a humanitarian/migration context; experience providing legal information, counselling and assistance to vulnerable populations; experience working with migrants, returnees, refugees, asylum seekers, IDPs and other persons of concern; familiarity with Ethiopia's judicial system and international laws on the rights of people on the move; strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills; university degree in law; excellent English proficiency. Contract length 12 months, national contract, start date 15 October 2026.
