Danish Refugee Council is seeking a Protection and Peacebuilding Officer for its operations in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Under the Protection Project Manager, the officer will undertake protection, legal aid and peacebuilding activities within the SIDA Mixed Migration project, providing legal information, counselling, assistance, dialogue facilitation and legal representation to migrants, returnees, refugees, asylum seekers, IDPs and other people on the move. Key duties include developing work plans for legal service provision and peacebuilding; conducting rapid assessments of legal and social cohesion needs; disseminating information on legal rights, documentation and procedures via mobile protection desks and community outreach; supporting advocacy and policy engagement on access to justice and protection; designing and facilitating dialogue and cultural exchange platforms between migrant and host communities; delivering capacity-building on mediation and conflict resolution; mapping legal aid and protection service providers along the Eastern migration route (Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Jigjiga, Togochale); and strengthening referral mechanisms with government, UN agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders. Requires minimum 3 years' experience in the legal sector, preferably in humanitarian/migration contexts; experience providing legal aid to vulnerable populations; familiarity with Ethiopia's judicial system and international migration law; strong interpersonal and analytical skills; and a university degree in law. Excellent English required. Contract: 12 months, national contract, Band H1, start date 15 October 2026.
