E3G is recruiting a Senior Policy Advisor to advance its work around the UNFCCC and climate diplomacy. The role will be based in E3G's London, Brussels or Berlin office, with a preference for London.

Context: The global climate regime is entering a new phase. With the core framework for implementing the Paris Agreement now largely in place, the priority is to accelerate implementation and ensure international cooperation delivers real-world progress on mitigation, adaptation, resilience and finance, amid geopolitical turbulence, economic uncertainty and pressure on public finances. The UNFCCC remains central to global climate action but must evolve — strengthening links between negotiations and real-economy action, making greater use of coalitions and partnerships, and connecting climate diplomacy with wider economic, energy, trade, finance and development agendas. The period to the second Global Stocktake (GST2) in 2028 will be critical.

Background: E3G is a world-leading strategy think tank on the political economy of climate change, consistently ranked among the top-ten most influential environmental think tanks worldwide.

Role Overview: The Senior Policy Advisor will lead UNFCCC engagement work within the Climate Diplomacy & Geopolitics (CDG) division, advancing E3G's climate diplomacy goals in international fora including the UNFCCC process, COP, the UN and beyond. Responsibilities include building and cultivating relationships within governments, across international negotiations and the broader stakeholder community; driving political analysis, research, advocacy and communications initiatives with key foreign policy actors and institutions; and working closely with E3G teams on finance, trade, industry, energy transition, adaptation and resilience. The role reports to the Programme Lead, Climate Diplomacy & Geopolitics, and includes line management of a small team, including at least one Policy Advisor and/or researcher.

Experience and Skills: At least seven years of experience in foreign policy, climate change policy, international relations or negotiations; experience building consensus across countries and stakeholder groups on sensitive issues; demonstrable experience on international climate policy in both analytical and influencing roles, ideally in multilateral venues (UNFCCC experience highly desirable); ability to operate confidently at expert level across government, business, media and civil society with cultural sensitivity; track record of thought leadership and authorship of significant reports and comment pieces; experience managing complex projects, line management and donor relationships; strong written and spoken English essential, a second language an advantage.

What we offer: Permanent, full-time position; flexible and hybrid working; 25 vacation days plus additional leave between Christmas and New Year; employer pension contribution; yearly remuneration review. Indicative salary: London £51,026–£55,000 annually; Berlin €55,597–€60,000 annually; Brussels €3,946.80–€4,166.70 monthly with holiday pay and 13th month, plus location-specific benefits. E3G cannot provide relocation assistance and requires candidates to demonstrate the right to live and work in the jurisdiction of employment.

Closing date: 2026-09-06

HOW TO APPLY:
Please submit your application in English via the E3G BambooHR careers page. Include: a CV of maximum two pages; and a cover letter of no more than one page outlining why you are applying for this role and when you would be able to start. The deadline for applications is Sunday 6 September 2026 at 23:59. E3G is looking to appoint quickly and may appoint before the deadline, so early submission is advised.
