E3G is looking for a Policy Advisor to support its Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics Programme (CDG) in driving forward its multilateral engagement work. The role will be based from either the London, Brussels or Berlin office, with a preference for London.
Background: E3G is an independent climate change think tank with a global outlook, working as strategists on the political economy of climate change and dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all. E3G is consistently ranked as one of the top ten most influential environmental think tanks in the world by the University of Pennsylvania's Global Go To Think Tank Index.
Context: Geopolitical competition, economic uncertainty, conflict, energy security concerns and pressure on public finances are reshaping the conditions for international cooperation. The UNFCCC and Paris Agreement remain central, but progress also depends on advancing climate priorities through wider regional and global institutions, coalitions and groupings such as the G7, G20 and BRICS.
Role: Based in the Climate Diplomacy and Geopolitics Team, the Policy Advisor supports E3G's multilateral venues work, including the UNFCCC, G7 and G20, as well as overall work on diplomacy and geopolitics. The position reports to the Senior Policy Advisor for UNFCCC.
Key responsibilities: support and build strategies for impactful climate diplomacy in multilateral fora, in particular UNFCCC/COP31; prepare clear research and analysis, briefings, reports and presentations on international climate politics; engage across the climate and foreign policy communities, working with government departments and civil society organisations; monitor and assess key policy debates in international foreign and climate policy; coordinate relevant work across E3G; convene key stakeholders in government, civil society and the private sector; organise and participate in stakeholder discussions and workshops; contribute to E3G's wider organisational development. International travel will be required.
Experience and skills: a high-quality degree and ideally a postgraduate qualification in a relevant area (climate change, international relations, economics, politics, development, international trade); experience and strong interest in multilateral institutions and UK foreign policy; at least three years of relevant professional experience (international climate policy, foreign policy, trade, geopolitics, energy or a related field); a track record of problem solving, research and strategy development; demonstrated ability to build stakeholder relationships and influence decision-makers across government, business, finance and civil society; a collaborative team player, well organised and results-focused; very strong oral and written English communication skills. Candidates must demonstrate the right to live and work in the UK.
What we offer: permanent, full-time position; 35-hour work week; flexible and hybrid working; 25 vacation days plus additional leave between Christmas and New Year; additional pension contribution plan; yearly remuneration review. Indicative salary: London £41,918-£44,000 annually; Berlin €45,990-€47,500 annually; Brussels €3,274.10-€3,412.40 monthly with holiday pay and a 13th month. E3G is unable to provide relocation assistance.
