About UN University (UNU): The United Nations University (UNU) is a global think tank and postgraduate teaching organization within the United Nations System, engaging in policy-relevant research, capacity development, and knowledge dissemination. UNU Centre Administration, located in Tokyo with a global services centre in Putrajaya, Malaysia, is responsible for administrative policies and services including financial management, budgeting, HR, travel and procurement.
Reporting to the Director of Administration, the Chief of Human Resources leads the HR portfolio to deliver the objectives of the UNU Strategic Plan, creating organizational culture and supporting innovation, inclusivity and diversity. Responsibilities include: leading global HR operations and services for more than 700 UNU personnel; leading the UNU HR Network; directing recruitment processes including senior executive appointments; overseeing HR services provided by UNDP; managing compensation and benefits; initiating and implementing HR policies within UN rules and regulations; ensuring compliance and correct HR reporting to bodies including ICSC, UN/OHR/DMSPC and UN BOA; supporting institutes in capacity building, training and performance management; fostering transparency and partnerships; and serving as Lead Gender Focal point and leading Disability and Inclusion, Diversity and Mental Health initiatives.
Qualifications: Master's degree (or Bachelor's with two additional years of qualifying experience) in HR management, business administration or other relevant discipline. At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in HR Management in a large organization, preferably international; at least 5 years in the UN Common Systems with supervisory responsibilities; knowledge of UN staff rules and regulations. Professional HR membership (CIPD, SHRM) an advantage. Fluency in English required; knowledge of another UN official working language an asset. Starting Date: January 2027. Full-time fixed-term appointment, initially one year with possibility of renewal.
