The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) is a globally recognized think tank with more than 30 years of experience working to solve today's greatest sustainable development challenges, with offices in Canada and Switzerland and a team of over 300 experts. IISD is looking for a Policy Analyst, Fossil Fuel Transition, to work within the IISD Energy Program as part of the International Strategy team, which delivers research, policy proposals, and strategic advice to support a Paris-aligned, just, orderly, and equitable transition away from fossil fuels and the end of public finance to fossil fuels. The Policy Analyst will support the research and advocacy work, helping countries pursue their climate and development goals.
Responsibilities include: contributing to policy-oriented research and advocacy with a focus on public financial flows, fossil fuel transition commitments, and economic diversification; producing policy briefs, blogs, and visualizations tailored to different audiences; planning engagements and liaising with strategic partners; and presenting IISD's work.
Essential requirements: a minimum bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., natural resource management, economics, public finance, international/development studies, political science, engineering, sociology); at least 2 years of relevant experience in policy research, climate and energy finance, statistics, or international cooperation; strong communication skills; understanding of policy-making in developed and developing countries; understanding of climate change and energy systems; and excellent English. Location: remote within one of the following Global South countries -- Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, or Uganda. One-year contract with high possibility of extension; salary commensurate with experience and location.
