COOPI is looking for a Head of Mission in Sudan. COOPI has been responding to the needs of the most vulnerable populations in Sudan since 2004, including refugees, IDPs, Returnees and vulnerable communities through an integrated WASH, Food Security and Livelihoods and Shelter approach. Since April 2023, COOPI has been providing support to war-affected populations in Khartoum and North Darfur states.
 
Purpose of the role: The Head of Mission is responsible for the management of the foreign office in its different aspects: mission development, staff management and training, budget sustainability, security, compliance with COOPI and donor procedures. S/he represents COOPI in relations with all local and international realities and collaborates with Regional Coordination in defining country strategy and intervention priorities.
 
Main Responsibilities:
  • REPRESENTATION: Represents COOPI institutionally; manages relations with donors; ensures participation in security meetings.
  • DEVELOPMENT: Proposes action priorities; participates in country strategy definition and data collection for programming.
  • MANAGEMENT: Supervises project documentation and submissions; oversees project managers; responsible for office management, legal compliance, personnel management (national and expatriate), and security of all staff.
  • ECONOMIC/FINANCIAL: Co-responsible for budget sustainability and economic performance.
  • COMMUNICATION: Collaborates with headquarters on visibility, communication and fundraising activities. 
Requirements:
  • University degree in relevant subjects
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in similar roles in humanitarian aid and international development
  • Previous experience with AICS, DG-ECHO, EU and UN Agencies
  • Strong communication, negotiation and multi-tasking skills
  • Experience with governmental/local authorities, IOs and NGOs
  • Ability to work in conflict-prone and stressful environments
  • Proven team management ability
  • Fluent English and Italian required
 
Desired: Experience in logistics, procurement, security; prior COOPI experience; managing complex consortia.
 
Duration: 12 months (extendable). Gross salary: €4,000–5,000/month. Benefits include round-trip flight, health and accident insurance, visa/work permit costs, 2.5 rest days/month, training, 5-day R&R every 3 months.
