The Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR) conducts and communicates research to inspire public dialogue, shape policy, and improve the lives and opportunities of women of diverse backgrounds. It is the leading think tank in the United States applying quantitative and qualitative analysis of public policy through a gendered lens.
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO) provides strategic leadership, management, planning and enhancement of IWPR's internal financial and organizational systems and infrastructure so IWPR can fulfil its mission and scale its impact. The CFOO is part of the Executive Leadership team and oversees the operations and administration of the organization, with direct oversight of Finance, People and Culture, IT, administration, and compliance.
Key responsibilities:
- Serve as strategic financial adviser and thought partner to the President and CEO in organization-wide planning.
- Develop and implement organizational systems and processes that increase efficiency and transparency and support growth.
- Support implementation of the strategic plan, with a focus on financial planning, sustainability and talent management.
- Lead day-to-day internal operations and provide hands-on leadership of finance and accounting, including budgeting, grants management and compliance, cash and investments, payables and receivables, payroll, tax, audit and governance.
- Oversee hiring, promotion and termination of staff, contractors and vendors, and manage vendor relationships.
- Manage and coach the Vice President of People and Culture, Senior Director of Finance, Office Manager, finance staff and IT support.
- Work with the Finance Committee and Board on investment policies and financial planning, attending triannual board meetings.
- Build a culture of transparency, equity and inclusion.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in business, accounting or nonprofit management, or equivalent experience; CPA preferred but not required.
- 10+ years' experience in finance and operations management.
- Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated strategic financial, budget and human resource management skills, plus technology, systems and project leadership experience.
- Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills; strong problem-solving and managerial skills.
This is a full-time, permanent, hybrid, exempt position (Admin VI). Salary range: $196,992 – $235,980, based on education and experience, with a generous benefits package.
