MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, working in 32 countries. It removes landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and supports governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. MAG was a co-recipient of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize for its work on the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
The Corporate Finance Manager joins MAG's Corporate Finance team on a hybrid basis in Manchester and reports to the Head of Corporate Finance. The role ensures accurate financial processing, robust reporting and strong internal controls, and delivers the financial insights that support data-informed decision-making across MAG's global network. Starting salary is £48,264 per annum plus contributory pension.
Responsibilities:
- Statutory accounts and compliance: lead production, scheduling and external audit liaison for MAG's UK annual statutory accounts; supervise compliance accounts for overseas programmes and support donor audits; support the development and enforcement of internal financial policies and controls.
- Financial control: oversee month-end closure, balance sheet reconciliations and accounts payable/receivable; authorise supplier payments, manage global programme fund transfers and control quarterly VAT submissions; support monthly management accounts and the HQ Annual Business Plan.
- Treasury management: assist with cash forecasts, working capital reports and schedules for currency trades; manage the financial impact of FX fluctuations, including balance sheet revaluation; monitor cash balances to maximise short-term deposit income while maintaining liquidity.
- Staff management: plan, prioritise and communicate workloads for the Corporate Finance team; manage, motivate and mentor team members; foster continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- Background in preparing Charity SORP statutory accounts, management accounts and business plans, with direct experience managing external audits.
- Expertise in complex multi-currency transaction accounting, treasury cash flow management and UK VAT legislation, using advanced systems and Excel.
- Proven track record of managing, training and motivating a part-qualified accounts team to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong technical accounting skills, the ability to explain complex financial information to non-finance staff, and a genuine commitment to MAG's humanitarian mission.
