Location: Kabul, Afghanistan
The Communications Specialist will support the visibility, positioning and external communications of DRC in Afghanistan by producing high-quality, timely and context-sensitive communications materials demonstrating DRC's program, impact, expertise and priorities. Working under the Advocacy and Communications Coordinator and in collaboration with program teams, Area Offices and support functions, the Specialist will coordinate day-to-day communications activities, develop written and multimedia content, support media engagement, ensure donor visibility requirements are followed, and strengthen communications capacity across DRC in Afghanistan.
Key responsibilities include communications planning and coordination; content development and storytelling (human-interest stories, factsheets, web articles, newsletters, social media, photos, videos); digital communications and visibility; media and external communications support; donor and program visibility; and field communications capacity building.
Requirements: minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in communications, media or public information, preferably in the humanitarian/development sector; demonstrated ability to produce high-quality communications content for different audiences; excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills; understanding of ethical storytelling, safeguarding and conflict-sensitive communications; ability to manage competing deadlines in a complex operational environment. Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, political science, international development or a related field required. Advanced professional English and fluency in Dari and Pashto required. Salary and conditions in accordance with DRC salary scale.
