Location: Yaounde, Cameroon
The Laboratory and Diagnostics Officer provides hands-on technical implementation support for the STRIDES Activity's laboratory/diagnostic strategy, part of a global project led by FHI 360 supporting the U.S. government's Global Health Security response by improving disease detection, surveillance, data collection, analysis, and reporting systems worldwide. The role provides technical assistance to STRIDES in-country staff, supports workplan design and quality assurance, implements and monitors technical initiatives, and works closely with the Laboratory and Diagnostic Advisor and HQ teams to evaluate programmatic effectiveness and provide technical assessment reports on national laboratory systems. Responsibilities include supporting molecular diagnostics, genomic sequencing, AMR and quality management systems; maintaining project protocols and materials; supporting laboratory network strengthening including specimen referral, quality assurance, LIMS, and training on antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic diseases, biosafety/biosecurity; supporting scale-up of molecular diagnostics and sequencing tools; conducting capacity assessments; contributing to research initiatives, work plans, presentations, and donor reports. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in microbiology or equivalent in biological sciences within a clinical or diagnostic discipline; 4+ years relevant experience in infectious disease diagnostics and/or laboratory systems strengthening; demonstrated training and supervision experience in molecular diagnostics, sequencing, QA/QC, and biosafety/biosecurity; prior NGO, government, or private sector experience; USG-funded project experience preferred; fluency in English and French required. Travel: 25-45%.
