The Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF) is the impact investment arm of the Open Society Foundations, deploying patient, risk-tolerant, catalytic capital to support inclusive and sustainable democracies worldwide. SEDF seeks an Investment Associate based in Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, or Nairobi (hybrid, 50% office time), reporting to the Managing Director of Investments and working closely with Investment Principals and Strategy/Impact teams. The Associate will support identification, development, and diligence of new investment opportunities and help manage SEDF's active portfolio, acting as a generalist across sectors and geographies. Key responsibilities include developing investment themes and strategies; leading landscaping and benchmarking exercises; managing investment processes including cataloguing deals and drafting investment memos; contributing to due diligence including financial modelling, risk analysis, and ESG analysis; forging strategic partnerships with impact investors, family offices, MDBs/DFIs, and consultants; supporting asset management of investees; and refining SEDF's investment processes and systems. Ideal candidates have at least 5-7 years of experience in private-sector banking or investment leading transactions, ideally with exposure to Emerging Markets/Global South, a proven track record closing due diligence for direct equity and debt investments and fund investments, strong financial modelling and analytical skills, asset management experience, and excellent English communication skills.
