The Xerces Society is seeking a Conservation Policy Analyst to support the Director of Conservation Policy on national and state-level policy work advancing invertebrate conservation, pollinator health, pesticide-reduction, and biodiversity protection. The role supports legal and regulatory policy initiatives and works across the endangered species, pesticide reduction, pollinator conservation, and communications teams, and may require registration as a lobbyist in select states.
Responsibilities include tracking and analyzing state/federal legislation, regulations and agency actions; conducting policy research and preparing briefs, memos and background materials; evaluating proposed legislation and regulatory guidance; drafting policy comments, testimony, fact sheets and advocacy communications; engaging elected officials, agency staff and decision-makers; participating in conservation coalitions and working groups; contributing content for reports, blogs and educational materials; and representing Xerces at hearings, meetings and conferences. Occasional overnight travel up to 5 days/month.
Requirements: a Bachelor's degree in environmental policy, environmental science, ecology, biology, public policy, political science or related field; 2-5 years of professional experience in environmental policy, conservation advocacy or government relations; a valid US driver's license; and current US work authorization (no visa sponsorship).
