Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is one of Germany's largest private aid organizations, working toward a world without hunger. WHH has been engaged in the Syria response since 2013, supporting displaced people and host communities in Syria and neighbouring countries, including Lebanon and Turkiye, through humanitarian assistance, early recovery and resilience-building programmes. As Head of Finance, based in Damascus, you will support the Country Director in ensuring effective and compliant financial management of WHH's programmes and projects across Syria, Turkiye and Lebanon, ensuring financial and administrative processes are efficient, transparent and auditable. You will provide strategic and operational financial guidance to the Country Office, project teams and partner organisations, and lead the Finance and Administration team. Responsibilities include overseeing budgeting, forecasting, liquidity planning, project accounting, expenditure monitoring and cost allocation; monitoring partner organisations' financial management; coordinating annual accounts, audits and financial reviews; supporting donor financial management including reports and fund requests; and leading/developing the Finance and Administration team. Requirements: a university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or a related field; 5-10 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in financial management within an international NGO; strong experience in project financial management, budgeting, financial reporting and financial controls; sound knowledge of donor regulations and audit processes; strong analytical, organisational and communication skills; high intercultural competence; readiness for required vaccinations; willingness to travel within Syria, Turkiye and Lebanon; fluency in English, with German, Turkish or Arabic an advantage. The initial contract duration is one year, to be filled by November 1st, 2026, with good prospects for extension.
