Job Description
The Communications Assistant supports a broad range of communications activities, from websites, social media and newsletters to publications, events and outreach, helping turn information and stories from FSD’s field operations into clear and engaging content.

We are looking for an excellent writer who is rigorous, reliable and highly attentive to detail. The ideal candidate is autonomous and proactive, with a natural affinity for digital tools and emerging trends, combined with excellent interpersonal skills and an enthusiasm for events, outreach and engaging with people.

The position is based at FSD’s headquarters in Geneva and reports to the Head of Communications, working under the day-to-day supervision of the Communications Manager.

Key responsibilities
• Websites: Play an active role in keeping FSD’s websites accurate, current and engaging. • Field content & photo management: Closely follow information and content coming from FSD’s field operations, identify relevant stories and communication opportunities, and liaise with field teams to obtain additional input when needed. Organise, select and maintain FSD’s photo, video and content archives to ensure quality material is easily accessible and effectively used.
• Writing & translation: Draft, edit, proofread and translate high-quality content for websites, newsletters, publications and other communications materials, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Events & outreach: Support the organisation and delivery of public events, exhibitions and awareness-raising activities, from preparation and logistics to engagement with visitors and partners. Help coordinate and develop FSD’s volunteer pool and its involvement in outreach activities.
• Social media & newsletter: Support the creation, adaptation, scheduling and publishing of social media content and the preparation and distribution of FSD’s monthly newsletter.
• Publications & materials: Support the production of annual reports and other publications, and prepare or adapt presentations, brochures, flyers and other branded materials.
• News Media: Support media outreach and monitoring as required and help ensure FSD branding and donor visibility requirements are consistently applied.
• Team support: Contribute ideas, support communications projects and provide practical and administrative support to the team as required.

Your profile
• Native English speaker – mandatory. Applications from non-native English speakers will not be considered.
• Working knowledge of either French or German.
• Relevant university degree and previous professional experience in communications or a related field.
• Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
• Highly rigorous, reliable and detail-oriented, with the ability to work autonomously and take ownership of tasks.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong digital affinity and confidence learning new tools and platforms.
• Proactive and curious, with good judgement and a strong sense of professionalism.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging with colleagues, partners and the public.
• Interest in humanitarian action and commitment to FSD’s mission and values.
• Experience with the following would be an asset: WordPress, SEO/Google Analytics, Google Ads, social media tools, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, MailChimp.
• Swiss/EU citizenship or a valid work permit for Switzerland.

What we offer
