Restless Development Uganda is an agency for youth-led change, supporting the collective power of young leaders to create a better world. Across Karamoja, West Nile, Eastern and Central Uganda, we support young people to influence the decisions that affect their lives while strengthening the systems and institutions that enable them to realise their full potential. We also coordinate the Uganda Youth Collective, a national platform of over 600 youth-led organisations. Restless Development is implementing a youth employment portfolio designed to improve the economic resilience and livelihoods of young people by expanding access to dignified work, entrepreneurship opportunities and inclusive financial services across 13 districts.
About the Role: The Gender Inclusion & Safeguarding Assistant Coordinator will support the implementation of gender equality, diversity and inclusion (GEDI) and safeguarding systems across the Programme. The role works closely with programme teams, Youth-Led Organisations (YLOs), and consortium partners to ensure safe, inclusive and equitable programming for all young people. Reporting to the Programmes Manager, the Assistant Coordinator will support safeguarding risk identification, capacity building, compliance monitoring and case management processes.
Key responsibilities: Support implementation of safeguarding systems, policies and procedures across programmes and partners; ensure compliance with organisational and donor safeguarding standards; support safeguarding case management including intake, documentation, referrals, follow-up and closure; support safeguarding risk assessments and survivor-centred referral pathways; integrate gender equality, diversity and inclusion principles across programme components; develop and review gender and inclusion tools and guidelines; lead safeguarding and GEDI sensitisation sessions for YLOs, partners and staff; conduct organisational safeguarding capacity assessments; support review of safeguarding and gender inclusion policies; and contribute to donor reports and learning products with the MERL function.
Essential requirements: Bachelor's degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Law, Human Rights, Social Work, Community Development or a related field; at least 2-3 years' experience working on safeguarding, child protection, GEDI or protection-related programmes in Uganda; experience supporting safeguarding implementation including reporting mechanisms, risk identification and response; experience working with Youth-Led Organisations, CBOs or grassroots structures; demonstrated experience delivering trainings and capacity-building; strong understanding of gender equality, social inclusion and rights-based programming; good facilitation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills; ability to handle sensitive information confidentially; strong written and verbal English.
Desirable: Experience on donor-funded, youth-focused or consortium-based programmes; training or certification in safeguarding, child protection, GBV prevention or gender mainstreaming; knowledge of Uganda's safeguarding frameworks and protection structures.
Salary: UGX 60,526,159 gross per annum. Preferred start date: October 2026. Contract length: 2 years. Fairly regular international and domestic travel expected. This position is contingent upon the availability of funding. Restless Development is an Equal Opportunities employer.
