The Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) Tunisia actively supports and coordinates UN inter-agency efforts on disability inclusion. The RCO has been involved in initiatives connected to the UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD), including coordination and engagement around a joint programme implemented in Tunisia by UN entities to advance the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
 
The RCO has also facilitated discussions related to the continuation and strengthening of UNPRPD-supported programming in the country. The RCO maintains contacts with organizations and associations representing persons with disabilities through its disability inclusion work and inter-agency coordination efforts.
 
The office has engaged with specialized disability rights associations and organizations of persons with disabilities to support awareness-raising, inclusive recruitment outreach, dissemination of opportunities, and disability inclusion initiatives within the UN system in Tunisia. The RCO plays a coordinating role in advancing disability inclusion across the UN Country Team in Tunisia.
 
This includes supporting disability inclusion action planning, participation in disability-focused inter-agency working groups, promoting implementation of the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS), facilitating capacity-building and awareness initiatives, and encouraging engagement with organizations of persons with disabilities. Disability inclusion has also been integrated into broader UNCT planning and coordination mechanisms.

Mission and objectives:
The Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator (RCO) is the main coordination structure of the United Nations system in Tunisia. It fulfills several roles: - Coordination and support: Facilitates the coordination of United Nations activities with national priorities and local capacity building. - Leadership and advocacy: Provides representation to the United Nations Secretary-General and leads the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. - Strategic engagement: Works with government, civil society, bilateral partners, the private sector, and academia to address national challenges and promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
 
Context:
The UN Volunteer will be assigned to the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Tunisia, attached to the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RCO). The mandate of the UNIC is to promote the values, priorities and activities of the United Nations, to strengthen public understanding of the role and action of the Organization, and to contribute to the strategic communication of the United Nations System in Tunisia.
 
In this capacity, he/she will coordinate the joint communication of the United Nations agencies, funds and programmes, in order to promote coherent, coordinated and impactful communication. Under the supervision of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) and in close collaboration with the Office of the Resident Coordinator (RCO) as well as the United Nations Communications Group (UNCG), the United Nations Volunteer will contribute to the strengthening and implementation of the joint communication of the United Nations System in Tunisia.
 
He/she will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the United Nations Joint Communications Strategy, with a view to strengthening the visibility, coherence and impact of inter-agency communication actions. He/she will also contribute to bringing the United Nations closer to citizens, especially young people, as well as partners and different stakeholders, through accessible, inclusive and audience-friendly content and communication initiatives.
 
This position is funded by the Embassy of Switzerland in Tunisia, as part of an initiative in partnership with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme to strengthen the inclusion of youth and persons with disabilities for the period 2024–2026.
 
Task description:
"Under the supervision of the National Public Information Officer, the United Nations Volunteer, Joint Communications Assistant, will contribute to the implementation of the communications activities of the Office of the Resident Coordinator and the United Nations System in Tunisia. He/she will provide support in the following areas:
 
1. Production of content and valorization of results * Write human stories, testimonies, articles and other content highlighting the impact of UN programmes and initiatives in Tunisia. * Contribute to the preparation of press releases, speeches, key messages, fact sheets and other communication materials. * Produce or coordinate the creation of multimedia content (photographs, short videos, infographics, visuals and other digital media).
2. Digital communication and awareness campaigns * Contribute to the planning and implementation of joint communication campaigns. * Participate in the management and animation of joint digital platforms (website, social networks and newsletters) by proposing and publishing appropriate content. * Ensure daily monitoring of media, social networks and news in order to identify topics of interest and prepare press reviews.
3. Event support and institutional visibility * Support the organization of communication events, conferences, exhibitions and awareness-raising activities. * Support media coverage of the activities of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Tunisia as well as joint initiatives of the United Nations System, including through the preparation of content, the taking of photos or the collection of information.
4. Results monitoring and coordination * Contribute to the monitoring of communication activities by collecting performance indicators and participating in the preparation of reports and reviews. * Support the activities of the United Nations Communications Group (UNCG) and contribute to strengthening coordination and collaboration among participating agencies. 5. Cross-cutting support * Provide support to any other communication activities, depending on the Office's priorities and operational needs. This version is more aligned with the UN Volunteers' job descriptions: it highlights areas of contribution, clarifies responsibilities and uses a level of language that is accessible to candidates at the beginning of their career path, without losing the institutional dimension."

  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence tools applied to communication and content creation. 
  • Proficiency in office tools (Microsoft Office); proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent tools is an asset. 
  • Experience in an association/NGO and/or media outlet is an asset.
  • Good organizational, planning and priority management skills. Ability to work independently is an asset.
  • Alignment with UN values. - Team player and ability to collaborate with different UN entities in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong interest in the United Nations, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and development issues.

Indemnities
1. Before taking up the post Lump sum entry allowance: USD 350 Relocation costs: USD 175 at the beginning and end of the mission if the duty station is outside commuting distance (as assessed by UNV)
2. During the mission Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance: TND 1,879.74 Training and Learning: Access to UNV Career Development and Training Resources Annual Leave: 2.5 days per month Insurance: Full health, life and malicious acts coverage for the volunteer, as well as health insurance for up to three eligible dependents (see Terms of Service for detailed criteria)
3. End of Assignment End-of-Mission Allowance (paid upon satisfactory completion of the contract): USD 120 per month of service, paid at the end of the contract.
