Consultancy Needed - Livelihood Support
Background: Cargill Tropical Palm and Save the Children have a shared vision to improve the lives of palm oil farmers and their communities. Livelihood Intervention (Outcome 1) is currently in the coordination stage, with initial coordination conducted with district government stakeholders, existing training centres, resource availability, and Market System Development (MSD) work in the area. Seven community groups are identified and inputs such as commodities and supporting tools are prepared for the upcoming intervention stage. The programme team requires a dedicated external collaborator with expertise in livelihood activities, especially horticulture and goat farming.
Purpose: The Livelihood External Collaborator will support the RESILIENCE: Youth-led Household Economic Empowerment and Sustainable Sanitation project in Air Upas, Ketapang District, focusing on the livelihood sector (horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry and product sanitation). S/he reports to the Programme Manager and is accountable for livelihood activity arrangements across 26 villages, farmer capacity improvement, commodity optimisation, financial literacy, income improvement, and adoption by other village members.
Scope of work: develop and implement livelihood strategies and conduct livelihood assessments; design sustainable horticulture activities including demonstration plots and Good Agricultural Practices; provide technical guidance on land preparation, seed selection, planting, integrated pest management, harvesting and post-harvest handling; promote climate-smart practices and efficient water management; support livelihood diversification and enterprise development including business plans and access to financial services; identify market opportunities and facilitate value chain linkages with buyers, traders and private-sector partners; deliver training and coaching for farmers, community groups and local facilitators; monitor activities, project assets and outcome data, and document lessons learned; coordinate with government agencies, NGOs, financial institutions and farmer groups; and develop sustainability and exit strategies.
Deliverables: monthly activity reports with village visit logbooks, farming process notes, planting plans, photo/video documentation, production and income recaps and replication evidence; timesheets detailing daily activities; and weekly updates to the project team.
Qualifications: agriculture knowledge and practical background, or a minimum of 3 years working in community support programmes, especially livelihood and community/youth engagement; experience providing technical assistance to programme teams or beneficiaries; ability to adapt and work safely in very remote areas with hazardous conditions; excellent communication skills with teams and rural palm oil communities; knowledge of accountability components in the programme cycle.
