The position

BACKGROUND
The Om Habibeh Foundation (OHF) is an Egyptian non-profit organization established in 1991 under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Solidarity. OHF is the implementation agency for the Aga Khan Foundation Egypt and is an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network of organizations and was founded by Om Habibeh Mohamed Shah Aga Khan to contribute to and support local communities in the governorate of Aswan in areas including health care, education, and providing income for deprived communities through long-term development activities. OHF works in the following areas: Continuing Education, Civil Society, Agriculture and Food Security, Economic Inclusion, Women Empowerment and Early Childhood Development.

POSITION OBJECTIVES:
The General Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial and accounting operations of Om Habibeh Foundation (OHF), ensuring that financial transactions are accurately recorded, properly supported, and processed in accordance with OHF policies, donor requirements, applicable laws and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Records:
• Record and maintain accurate financial transactions in the accounting system.
• Review accounting entries and ensure that transactions are posted to the correct account, project, fund, cost centre, and other relevant dimensions.
• Perform regular review and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.

Accounts Payable and Payments
• Review invoices, payment requests, and supporting documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with approved procedures.
• Verify relevant approvals and ensure expenses are charged to the appropriate project and budget lines.
• Prepare payment documentation and support the weekly payment cycle.

Cash and Bank Management
• Prepare and maintain regular bank reconciliations for OHF bank accounts.
• Investigate and resolve outstanding and unreconciled items in a timely manner.
• Support the preparation of cash requests and cash flow information when required.

Staff Advances and Receivables
• Maintain and regularly reconcile staff advances and other receivable accounts.
• Monitor outstanding advances and follow up with staff to ensure timely settlement.
• Review supporting documentation for advance settlements and ensure correct accounting treatment.

Month End and Year End Closing
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes.
• Prepare and post necessary accruals, provisions, prepayments, and other closing adjustments.

REQUIRED QULAIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance,

Qualifications and Experience:
• 3-5 years relevant accounting & finance experience, preferably in the field of development sector or donor-funded projects.
• Good knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge in relevant accounting ERP software such as Microsoft Dynamics 365
Business Central software
• Good knowledge of applicable local laws, regulations, tax requirements, and government payment procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work is in-office.
Normal conditions for an office environment in well reputed foundations.
