The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.

PURPOSE: The Livestock Husbandry Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and improving livestock production systems with a focus on animal nutrition, fodder production, herd health management, milk production, meat production, animal welfare, and farm productivity. The position supports the development of sustainable and climate-resilient livestock systems in Oman while ensuring compliance with national veterinary, food safety, and biosecurity regulations. It ensures data collection and reporting by maintaining livestock production databases and farm records, analyzing production, health, and economic performance indicators, preparing technical reports and recommendations, supporting livestock sector assessments and feasibility studies, and contributing to national livestock development initiatives.

ENGAGEMENT: Coordinate stakeholder engagement with government agencies, private-sector actors, financial institutions, and development partners; foster collaboration across program staff and stakeholders; promote GGGI's values of Trust, Transparency, Respect and Partnership; report directly to the Chief of Party; and represent the program in meetings, workshops and calls as delegated.

DELIVERY: Provide technical support for cattle, camel, and small ruminant production systems and monitor herd performance indicators. Formulate balanced, cost-effective rations and introduce climate-smart feed resources and conservation techniques (silage and hay) suited to arid environments; assess fodder availability (Rhodes grass, Alfalfa, Sorghum, Maize silage, hydroponics) to reduce reliance on imported feed while optimizing water management. Partner with veterinary teams on disease prevention, vaccination and biosecurity protocols, ensuring compliance with Omani notifiable disease reporting and antimicrobial stewardship; monitor dairy/meat performance to improve milk hygiene, mastitis control, fattening programs and carcass quality. Deliver training manuals, guidelines and climate-smart livestock extension programs for farmers, cooperatives and local personnel, mainstreaming women and youth participation across livestock value chains.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Animal Production, Livestock Production, Veterinary Science, or Agricultural Science (Livestock Specialization); Master's degree in animal nutrition, ruminant production, dairy science or veterinary public health preferred. 6-8 years of relevant experience in livestock production, husbandry and farm management, with proven practical experience in dairy and/or meat production systems, feed formulation and fodder production under arid or semi-arid environments. Familiarity with animal health management and biosecurity practices and smallholder/commercial livestock operations. Experience in GCC countries, particularly Oman, and in donor-funded agricultural development projects. Fluency in English required; Arabic an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS: G8 national salary scale (Country Scale), Staff contract. GGGI provides 15% of base salary towards retirement plan/long-term savings, 27 days of annual leave, flexible work arrangements and a contribution towards private health insurance covering dental and vision. The appointment is for 24 months, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and budget availability. End date of appointment: 30.09.2028.
