Type of contract: Service Contract (SC2). Hiring Unit: Sector for Administration and Management (ADM). Duty Station: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (on site). Duration: 3 months, tentatively from 01 October to 31 December 2026, extendable at the discretion of the Head of UNESCO Dar es Salaam Office based on operational needs, satisfactory performance and availability of funds, for periods of up to 12 months at a time. Open to external candidates.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT: Under the overall authority of the Head of Office and UNESCO Representative of the UNESCO Dar es Salaam Office, and under the immediate supervision of the Finance and Administrative Officer, the incumbent determines trip itineraries and expected journey duration. This requires exercising judgement and choosing between accepted alternatives (route choice, observance of security instructions and procedures). The incumbent must exercise care and take safety precautions while driving, sometimes in difficult conditions, and needs knowledge of local driving rules and regulations, the local environment, and basic vehicle maintenance and repairs. The incumbent may need to drive long or odd hours or on weekends when meeting official personnel at the airport or driving officials at official functions, and may occasionally lift heavy equipment or luggage.

MAIN TASKS: Drive UNESCO staff, officials, visitors and authorized personnel using official/project vehicles, ensuring reliable and safe driving services; meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitate basic visa and customs formalities; translate into the local language when necessary; drive on field trips as required. Ensure cost-savings through proper day-to-day use and maintenance of the assigned vehicle - daily vehicle logs, timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, oil changes, checks of tyres, brakes and water levels, and car washing; provide inputs to vehicle maintenance plans and reports; arrange inspection and repair at the officially designated workshop. Ensure availability of all required documents and supplies including vehicle insurance, registration, logs, office directory, city/country map, first aid kit and spare parts; track insurance and tax formalities; report accidents timely and accurately; assist with installation and use of HF/VHF radio and satellite phone. Deliver and collect mail, documents and other items; when not driving, perform other duties such as photocopying, binding, filing and paying office bills. Undertake the duties of other drivers when they are on leave.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum high school certificate; valid national driver's licence; Passenger Service Vehicle driving courses from reputable institutions an advantage. Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience. Fluency in English and Kiswahili (oral and written) is required. Skills: proven capacity to drive vehicles safely and consistently with local regulations; strong communication skills; experience driving a variety of cars and vehicle models; skills in minor vehicle repairs; knowledge of radio, email, telephone and other applications; knowledge of UN vehicle driving rules and regulations an added advantage.
