About CDI
The Constructive Dialogue Institute (CDI) is a non-partisan, non-profit dedicated to equipping the next generation of Americans with the skills to communicate and collaborate across lines of difference. CDI works with U.S. colleges and universities by providing co-curricular programming for students, professional development for faculty and staff, and strategic guidance to leadership. CDI was co-founded by psychologist Jonathan Haidt.
About the Role
CDI is seeking a versatile, fast, and editorially sharp Communications & Content Manager to serve as the production engine behind its communications and thought leadership. Reporting to the VP of Strategic Communications, you will turn CDI's research and point of view into a steady stream of high-quality, on-message content that grows the audience and strengthens CDI's reputation as a leading national voice on constructive dialogue in higher education.
This is a hands-on maker role. You will write and produce CDI's higher education newsletter, blog, and social content; turn flagship research into a full family of related pieces; and produce materials that equip the Partnerships team to win new partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Manage the editorial calendar and owned content: write, build, and send CDI's higher education newsletter; produce blog content; run a unified organic social calendar across brand, executive, and thought-leadership content.
- Produce and repurpose thought leadership: turn CDI's research (white papers, briefs, studies) into blog posts, op-ed drafts, social posts, and newsletter features; draft and package thought-leadership content.
- Support earned media: help build and maintain press lists, draft pitches, support the VP in securing media coverage, track media coverage and mentions.
- Produce marketing collateral and maintain brand standards: produce audience-facing marketing collateral, maintain CDI's brand templates, produce marketing case studies and testimonials.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in communications, content marketing, editorial, or journalism, ideally in a mission-driven, B2B, higher education, or advocacy context.
- A portfolio of published work across formats (newsletters, articles or blogs, social, long-form).
- Strong editorial operator: thinks in calendars, cadences, and systems; can keep many pieces of content moving at once without dropping quality.
- Exceptional writer and editor: produces clear, accurate, on-message content across many formats.
- Politically astute and mission-aligned: judgment to communicate constructively across ideological lines; familiarity with the higher education landscape is a plus.
- Fluent with content and marketing tools (CMS, email platform such as HubSpot, social schedulers) and modern AI tools.
