About Us:
Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour away from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.
Role Profile:
This role primarily focuses on logistics and facility management, with a strong emphasis on Community Engagement initiatives through projects and workshops. These workshops cover various skills, including carpentry, gardening, and bicycle repair, along with maintenance shifts at the LHI Community Centre.
These activities are carried out in collaboration with our community volunteers (camp residents who are part of the LHI team) and our visiting team members. Additionally, this role includes supporting the Aid Distribution Program by assisting with warehouse operations and distributions as needed.
Logistics, Maintenance & Community Engagement (Primary Role):
• Oversee improvements and additions to the LHI Community Center
• Organize and manage regular volunteer shifts to assist with logistical tasks such as repairs, gardening and painting
• Plan and oversee construction projects and workshops in collaboration with community volunteers, community members, and the Community Engagement Program Manager
• Supervise the Bike Workshop and garden Project at the LHI Community Center
• Work alongside different programs managers at the center and maintain regular communication about logistical needs for each program
• Work alongside and maintain regular communication with the Director of Logistics & Finance regarding logistical needs and priorities for the LHI Greece program
• Main driver for logistical needs at the center
• Maintain LHI vehicles, staff apartments and the LHI Bike fleet
• Be the focal point for any needs in staff apartments
• Coordinate regular bike shifts to repair team staff bikes
• Coordinate repairs and maintenance through contractors as needed
Warehouse and Distributions (Support LHI Aid Distribution Manager):
• Assist in managing the warehouse and stock using Boxtribute software
• Support the supervision of visiting and community volunteers facilitating distributions at the center
• Help plan and coordinate distributions, including food, clothing, hygiene items, and diapers
• Contribute to the development of the distribution program in alignment with organizational strategy
• Assist in supervising international volunteers during regular warehouse shifts if needed
Essential Criteria:
• Proactive: Ability to work independently without constant supervision
• Humanitarian experience: Previous experience in logistics, aid distribution, or warehouse management
• Problem solving: identify problems and find solutions with limited resources
• Driving requirements: Valid international driver’s license, with the ability to drive manual and a van
• People management: Prior experience leading and managing teams
• Professionalism: Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Teamwork: Strong communication skills and ability to work efficiently in a large, multicultural team
• Commitment: Minimum six-month
• Language: Fluent in English
Desirable Criteria:
• Knowledge of Greek / Arabic / Kurmanji / Farsi / French
• Understanding of key aid distribution principles
• Maintenance or construction skills
• Electrician skills
• Plumbing skills
• Basic knowledge how to fix bikes
• Potential to stay on the team for 6-12 months
