The Sonoran Institute's Growing Water Smart (GWS) program trains and assists communities in ensuring that land-use planning accounts for future water conditions and makes the most strategic and equitable use of available water. The program promotes state and local policies that more widely integrate water and land use planning across the Colorado River Basin, operating in Colorado, Arizona, California, and along the US-MX border.

The Director is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, implementation, and long-term success of the GWS program. The Director leads program planning, implementation, financial stewardship, fundraising, partnership development, and staff supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development and Implementation (55%): Develop and maintain a multi-year program plan; lead implementation of technical and financial aspects; direct development and delivery of workshops and technical assistance; identify and implement research and best practices; develop strategic partnerships with government agencies, nonprofits, academic institutions, and tribal communities; develop outreach strategies and serve as primary spokesperson.
- Program Management (25%): Develop and maintain program budgets; hire, supervise, and develop program staff; review and approve vendor contracts and grant agreements; oversee consultants and contractors.
- Fundraising (15%): Lead fundraising efforts by identifying funding opportunities, cultivating relationships with institutional donors, preparing grant proposals and reports.
- Institutional Leadership (5%): Serve as active member of the Leadership Team; attend Board meetings; contribute to organizational decision-making.

Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in natural resource management, water resources, urban/regional planning, environmental policy, public policy, or related field.
- Seven or more years of progressively responsible experience in natural resources, water resources, planning, conservation, or related fields.
- Demonstrated success securing grants from foundations, government agencies, corporations, or individual donors.
- Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, organizational, and program management skills.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally throughout the United States and Mexico.
- Professional proficiency in Spanish preferred.

Salary: $87,797 to $111,946 annually. This is a fully remote position for an employee residing in or near Denver, Colorado.
