The mission of the Unit on the Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH) is to ensure the effective implementation of the 2001 Convention for the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage and its related programmes. Under the authority of the Director of the Culture and Emergencies Entity and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Underwater Cultural Heritage Unit, the incumbent shall act as a scientific focal point and underwater archaeology expert for the 2001 Convention activities, contributing to its visibility in the academic community and participating in key international scientific conferences. Responsibilities include contributing to activities of the Secretariat with special attention on South Asia and East Asia regions; coordinating a cooperation mechanism project for the protection of underwater cultural heritage in the Baltic Sea (organizing meetings, drafting a global project, identifying fundraising and communication partners, developing educational components); assessing activities related to the Skerki Bank mission; integrating marine and underwater cultural heritage into climate action and resilience strategies; and supporting organization of STAB and MSP meetings and events for the 25th anniversary of the Convention. Requires an advanced university degree (Master's) in a culture-related discipline and a minimum of ten years of professional experience in culture, of which five in cultural policies at the international level. Excellent knowledge of English and French required. Duration: 11 months, home based / Paris duty station.
