Coordinator - Communications

Organisational Profile:

The Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA) is an Asian labour-led global labour and social alliance across garment-producing countries in Asia and consumer regions of USA and Europe. Founded in 2007, AFWA aims to build regional unity among Asian garment unions to overcome the limitations of country-based struggles in global production networks and holds global fashion brands accountable. AFWA’s work involves engaging, responsive, fast-moving and creative campaigning to tackle poverty level wages and gender-based violence in the industry, and advocate for living wages and violence-free workplaces for garment workers, who are mostly women, in the global garment industry. It unites labor, social and human rights organisations nationally and regionally in Asia and builds strategic alliances globally.

Job role:

AFWA is looking for a dynamic person to fill the position of Coordinator - Communications. S/he will work with diverse network partners, alliances, and coalitions in South and Southeast Asia, coordinate impactful campaigns, and collaborate with research and legal teams to gather evidence and information to support campaign demands and objectives. S/he will contribute to the development of compelling and effective communications and creatively engage diverse audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Communications with a focus on external communications
  • Brand/ Identity production
  • Develop external communications strategies
  • Craft compelling content for digital and print communications platforms (social media, press, op-eds, blogs)
  • Analyse communications data and metrics to improve outcomes
  • Coordinate with regional and country-based teams to ensure consistency of messages 
  • Develop and conduct team trainings & capacity building in communications
  • Co-develop plans for public events and key global days
  • Develop Individual Donor Program
  • Engage in creating writing products (position papers), as needed by organisation
  • Place and promote publications in academic circles; build relations with universities, select conferences
  • Develop AFWA’s communication plan with team members and partners in South and Southeast Asia
  • Coordinate communications strategies across South and Southeast Asia through digital platforms
  • Coordinate campaign activities at South and Southeast Asia level
  • Help build strategic relationships with broader networks and organisations in South and Southeast Asia
  • Craft compelling content, graphic and videos for social media
  • Handle the zoom platform for meetings and webinar
  • Engage with journalists and work to secure media coverage for campaigns
  • Coordinate with AFWA’s regional and country-based teams to ensure consistency of messages 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (development studies, Communication, Journalism, Sociology) or equivalent
  • Proficiency in Zoom and WordPress backend
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in communications and/or campaigns
  • Experience in managing social media channels for campaigning and sustaining digital engagement.
  • Proficiency in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo and LinkedIn
  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop and Canva
  • Experience in writing on labour rights and knowledge of garment industry -, a plus
  • Visual design and video editing skills are required
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently within agreed framework while maintaining communication with a global team in different time zones and geographies.
  • Ability to be flexible and work proactively and reactively in a fast-paced environment, and work with multiple teams.
  • Excellent written and spoken English 

Location: Hybrid / Work from Home - South Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh)

Hours: 40 hours per week

Job Type: Fixed term

Start date: Immediate
