Work Location: Yangon
Duration: 4 weeks
1. Background
WWF, an independent conservation organization active in nearly 100 countries, works to sustain the natural world for the benefit of people and wildlife. WWF-Myanmar, established in 2014, is focused on halting the loss of the country’s extraordinary biodiversity and ensuring that human use of the country’s natural resources is sustainable and equitable. Preserving the environment in which people live and work is critical for health and wellbeing. Find out more at www.wwf.org.mm
2. Background of the Assignment/ Project
Innovation is very crucial for us working on conservation in a complex social context. In response to the need for more creative and adaptive ways of working, WWF-Myanmar established a local A-Team to promote a culture of innovation, experimentation, and collaborative problem-solving among staff. Over time, the local A-Team has played an important role in fostering innovation across the organization by creating space for staff to explore new ideas, test approaches, and learn from both successes and failures. The local A-Team now seeks to build on this foundation by strengthening staff capacity in design thinking as a practical and human-centered method for problem-solving and project design.
Design thinking offers a structured but flexible process for understanding problems, engaging users, generating ideas, prototyping solutions, and refining them through iteration. It is particularly useful for complex challenges where conventional approaches may not be sufficient. By strengthening internal capacity in design thinking, the local A-Team aims to enhance its ability to design more responsive projects and to prepare staff to transfer these skills to CSO partners through future training and facilitation support.
3. Objective of the Assignment/ Project
The overall objective of this assignment is to strengthen the capacity of internal staff and the local A-Team to apply design thinking as a practical approach to project design, innovation, and problem-solving. Through this assignment, our staff will gain the knowledge and skills needed to
use design thinking methods in their daily work and to adapt these methods for use in conservation project development and implementation. A further objective is to equip internal staff and the local
A-Team to later facilitate or retrain CSO partners on design thinking through a training-of-trainers approach. This will help expand the use of design thinking beyond the organization and contribute to a broader culture of innovation, collaboration, and user-centered solution development.
