Programme Manager – Selous Conservation Programme

Selous Game Reserve is one of Africa's largest protected areas and a cornerstone of Tanzania's conservation landscape. Through the Selous Conservation Programme (SCP), FZS works alongside the Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA) to strengthen protected area management systems, support law enforcement and resource protection, enhance ecological monitoring, and build institutional capacity to safeguard the Selous ecosystem for the long term.

The Programme Manager leads, coordinates, and advances the Selous Conservation Programme, ensuring delivery of a protected area management–focused programme that directly supports the effective management of Selous Game Reserve (SGR). The role focuses on strengthening core protected area management functions, including law enforcement support, ecological monitoring, infrastructure, planning, institutional capacity and stakeholder engagement in close collaboration with government authorities. Operating in a remote and complex environment, the role provides strategic, technical, financial, and operational oversight.

Tasks include: supporting SGR management in defining protected area management priorities and operational plans; strengthening law enforcement, patrol deployment, resource protection, and ecological monitoring; leading planning, coordination, resourcing, and implementation of programme activities including field operations, procurement, and logistics; ensuring sound financial management and reporting; line management and mentoring of the SCP team; maintaining relationships with TAWA, government institutions, donors, communities, and partners; addressing external threats and Human–Wildlife Conflict strategies; and identifying funding opportunities and contributing to proposal development.

Profile: Advanced degree (MSc or equivalent) in conservation, natural resource management, or related field; minimum five years of relevant experience in protected area or conservation programme management, preferably within an African context; strong knowledge of budgeting, financial management, and donor reporting; experience working with government authorities and field-based teams; willingness to live and work in remote field environments; strong leadership and people management skills; fluency in English and working knowledge of Kiswahili.

HOW TO APPLY:
Submit a cover letter outlining your motivation and suitability, a detailed CV, and contact details of three professional references by clicking APPLY NOW. This position is offered under a local contract; only candidates legally eligible to work in Tanzania can be considered.
