The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) is an integrated set of activities funded by the United States Government (USG), intended to provide timely, accurate, evidence-based, and transparent food insecurity early warning information and analysis. Chemonics implements FEWS NET's Decision Support Team (DST), which provides integrated monitoring and analyses of current and forecast acute food insecurity in countries worldwide to support USG policy and programmatic decisions.

Position: The Country Technical Senior Specialist for Food Security (CTSS-FS) is responsible for supporting the delivery of technical outputs and representing FEWS NET in national and sub-national fora, under the Country Technical Lead's (CTL) direction. Responsibilities include: efficient acute food insecurity monitoring, data collection, assessment, and early warning analysis; effective communication of early warning analysis through high-quality reports and briefings; close collaboration with host government ministries, UN agencies, and international and local NGOs; regular participation in IPC/CH analyses; oversight of enumerators/key informants collecting field data; and uploading data to the FEWS NET Data Warehouse (FDW). The CTSS-FS supports the fulfilment of monthly reporting requirements including Food Security Outlooks (FSOs), FSO Updates, Price Watch, and key messages, and contributes to Food Assistance Outlook Brief reports.

Qualifications: Proficiency in written and spoken English required; Arabic and/or French desirable. Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (economics, agricultural economics, agronomy, nutrition, climatology, anthropology, or social geography) required; advanced degree desirable. At least five years of relevant experience (with Master's) or seven years (with Bachelor's) required, including food security information systems, food security analysis, or early warning. Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, and report-writing skills. GIS and mapping skills desirable. Candidates must possess current, permanent work authorization in Sudan. The role is based in Khartoum, Sudan, and requires regular national and sub-national travel.
