The Legal Coordinator, Pre-Publication Review & Journalist Support is a new role designed to assist the expanding work of Reporters Committee's legal programming team. This position supports the operational systems that make the work possible by tracking the currency of legal resources, coordinating journalist and newsroom legal trainings, and expanding outreach to ensure that journalists who need legal support know where to find it. The Legal Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Pre-Publication Review & Journalist Support and will not provide legal advice; instead, this individual ensures that the infrastructure behind the legal programming is organized, current, and responsive, allowing attorneys and program staff to focus on substantive legal work. Key responsibilities include tracking updates and revisions to legal guides, monitoring deadlines and flagging outdated materials, onboarding new guide authors, maintaining internal tracking systems, coordinating and scheduling legal trainings for journalists and newsrooms, supporting outreach to increase awareness of the legal hotline and other resources, and providing program and administrative support across legal programming areas. Requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; minimum 2 years of experience in a legal, nonprofit, or professional services environment; exceptional organizational skills; strong written and verbal communication; ability to handle sensitive information with discretion; and a genuine commitment to press freedom. Preferred: experience in journalism or media law, familiarity with press freedom issues, experience supporting legal clinics or CLE-style training, and CRM/project management platform experience. Washington, D.C.-metro or East Coast applicants strongly preferred; stellar remote applicants considered. The Reporters Committee does not sponsor work visas; applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. Starting salary based on experience: $63,500–$69,300.
