About the Impact Investing Institute: an independent non-profit working to transform capital markets for a fairer, greener and more resilient future. Its Labs develop practical responses to societal challenges, its field-building work supports learning and networks, and its policy collaboration helps create an environment in which impact investing can thrive, bringing together finance, philanthropy, business and government.
Why this role exists: A newly created Director-level role at a pivotal moment. The Institute (a c.GBP 2m organisation) is entering its next phase of deepening impact and strengthening financial resilience. The Director is both a strategic leader and a hands-on income generator who personally leads the Institute's most important funder opportunities and builds a high-performing fundraising and partnerships function. The role carries significant external visibility with funders, investors, family offices, foundations and strategic partners, and works closely with the CEO, Board and senior colleagues.
What you will deliver:
- Strategy and pipeline: develop and deliver a fundraising and partnerships strategy; build a qualified pipeline across foundations, government, corporates, financial institutions and family offices.
- Major funding: personally lead cultivation, solicitation and negotiation of major relationships, securing six-figure and multi-year commitments and growing core and unrestricted income; develop propositions and grant applications with programme colleagues.
- Partnerships and stewardship: build long-term partnerships, ensure supporters receive timely accounts of impact, and manage renewals.
- Team leadership: lead and develop fundraising colleagues; manage the fundraising budget; maintain CRM, pipeline reviews and income forecasts.
- Financial planning and risk: work with the Finance Director on income phasing and cashflow; oversee due diligence, funding risk assessment and partnership agreements; use technology and AI appropriately.
- Collective leadership: build a culture of fundraising, deputise for the CEO on agreed external engagements, and advise the CEO and Board.
First 12-18 months: a clear strategy, a diversified pipeline, significant new six-figure and multi-year commitments, more core income, stronger stewardship and an embedded CRM and forecasting discipline.
Essential experience: a strong record of personally securing major funding including six-figure and multi-year commitments; substantial fundraising experience in at least two of foundations, government, corporates and financial institutions; ability to develop and execute strategy while hands-on; excellent relationship-building, influencing and negotiation skills; experience leading and developing colleagues; sound financial and operational judgement; commitment to the Institute's mission. Desirable: knowledge of impact investing, capital markets or sustainable finance; funder and financial institution networks.
The Institute is committed to inclusion and accessibility and encourages applications from under-represented groups.
