Last Mile Health saves lives in the world's most remote communities, partnering with governments to recruit, train, equip and integrate professional community health workers into national health systems. In Ethiopia, the team works with the Ministry of Health to strengthen the Health Extension Program, upskilling Health Extension Workers (HEWs) through blended learning and advancing digital innovation through HEP Assist, an AI-powered clinical decision-support tool.

The Technical Coordinator (HEP Assist AI) will coordinate, clinically monitor and technically support the different stages of implementation of the HEP Assist AI project in Ethiopia, serving as the bridge between field operations, clinical safety mechanisms and government stakeholders. The role ensures the transition from a human-operated to an AI-led clinical decision support service is safe, effective, and culturally and linguistically adapted (Amharic and Afaan Oromo). This is a 24-month fixed-term position with potential renewal; two positions are available, based onsite in Addis Ababa.

Key responsibilities:
- Research compliance and data collection: support IRB submissions and amendments, develop and refine data collection and quality tools, and supervise data collection teams.
- Document review and HEP scope: review reference documents for alignment with the Ministry of Health program scope and liaise with domain experts and the MOH.
- Language adaptation and training: oversee transcription and translation of clinical consultations and AI interactions in Amharic and Afaan Oromo; provide human-in-the-loop feedback to optimize speech-based AI models.
- Clinical monitoring and AI quality assurance: monitor live and recorded consultations for clinical accuracy and patient safety, intervene clinically when needed, and provide structured feedback to HEWs, call center agents and AI engineers.
- Field implementation and follow-up: develop implementation schedules for the 4-stage AI rollout, supervise HEW use of the tool in selected woredas, train staff and facilitate review meetings.
- Coordination with government stakeholders: communicate with Regional, Zonal and Woreda Health Offices and prepare progress reports.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Medicine, Nursing or Health Officer; a clinical background is mandatory.
- Native or full professional fluency in Amharic and Afaan Oromo.
- Demonstrated experience in the national or sub-national health system, particularly the Health Extension Program and HEWs.
- Ability to clinically monitor consultations and intervene in high-risk cases.
- Familiarity with CHIS and DHIS2.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, ability to work independently in the field under pressure, and proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite.

Preferred: Master's in Public Health or related field; experience with digital health, telemedicine or AI-based interventions; experience leading field data collection for IRB-approved research; experience training adult learners (HEWs).

Compensation: Band ETH-2, USD 13,094 to 24,733 per annum, plus benefits including health insurance, retirement match, paid time off, parental leave, professional development and mental health support.

HOW TO APPLY:
Apply online through the Last Mile Health careers page (JazzHR). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The role is open only to candidates currently residing in Ethiopia who are authorized to work in the country.
