Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The Senior PMDT Advisor is a member of the AFGHS/MSH central technical team and is responsible for supporting the national TB program in strengthening the programmatic management of drug-resistant TB (PMDT) at the country level, to improve the diagnosis and management of MDR, Pre-XDR and XDR-TB. The advisor will also advise on the implementation of the shorter MDR regimen and other new developments to improve patient treatment outcomes, and will support the National TB, Leprosy and Lung Disease Program (NTBLLD) in strengthening and establishing Centers of Excellence for PMDT under the National framework. The role works jointly with Government TB/PMDT experts across project areas while ensuring sustainability and transition to Government and local stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance to decentralize PMDT activities and increase coverage of diagnosis and treatment, including at community level
- Identify PMDT programmatic challenges, including drug-resistant TB case finding, and address them with Government and other partners
- Support NTBLLD to establish PMDT Centers of Excellence per the national COE framework and to scale up enrollment of MDR/XDR-TB patients in treatment
- Improve the quality of PMDT programs, including provision of DR-TB preventive therapy to meet international standards
- Build capacity of NTBLLD, regional health bureaus and regional project technical advisors in the management of MDR and pre/XDR-TB
- Provide leadership to the AFGHS/MSH team on PMDT and represent the project in technical working groups and partner meetings
- Support development, implementation and monitoring of the annual PMDT implementation plan, including contact investigation, DR-TB preventive therapy, treatment outcomes and pharmacovigilance
- Compile reports and best practices, and facilitate sustainability and transition of project gains to Government and local actors
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in public health sciences from a recognized university
- At least 7 years of work experience on TB programs, including implementation of PMDT in Ethiopia
- Excellent written and spoken English, communication, organizational, analytical, leadership and project management skills
- Commitment to MSH's aims and policies and experience promoting women's rights and the interests of marginalized people
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
