Chatham House is seeking a Programme Director for its distinguished Global Economy and Finance programme, following the retirement at the end of 2026 of the present Programme Director. The role leads one of the institute's highest-profile streams of work, building on its reputation and expertise in global economics and finance and increasing its influence on the decisions that governments, companies and societies make. Reporting to the Director and CEO, the Programme Director will lead a programme addressing questions of global economic stability and prosperity and the policies and institutions that foster these, covering global and macro questions of governance, stability, trade and growth, and working with the thematic and country programmes to bolster their treatment of issues such as the economic impact of climate change, the digital economy and the competitive challenges of China.
The Programme Director will bring:
- Extensive experience leading outstanding work in global economics and finance.
- A clear sense of a coherent programme for Chatham House at this moment and an ability to use analysis to yield clear conclusions, implications and policy recommendations.
- Strong technical command of economic and financial issues, a background in empirical analysis, and excellent current knowledge of policy debates in international affairs more widely.
- An established public profile and a record of delivering high-quality publications and activities.
Contract: Full-time, Permanent. Salary: Competitive. Location: St James's Square, London (hybrid, typically three days a week in the office; higher in-person attendance, UK and international travel, and out-of-hours events likely).
