Location: The Hague, Netherlands
The OPCW internship programme is aimed at motivated students with an interest in gaining experience in international organisations. The programme normally provides work placements in the Technical Secretariat for a three to six month period, giving first-hand experience of the day-to-day working environment of an international organisation as you work with international experts towards a world permanently free of chemical weapons.
The Public Affairs Branch supports the Director-General and the Organisation by promoting the mission, activities, achievements and continued relevance of the OPCW. It monitors and liaises with news media, distributes public information, manages the official website and social media, oversees education and outreach activities, and provides audio and video materials. As an intern, you will contribute to the OPCW's public outreach and external communications activities and develop an understanding of a strategic communications operation within an international organisation.
Main responsibilities include assisting branch staff with some or all of the following: researching and drafting the daily news review; assisting in planning communications campaigns; managing the editorial content calendar; updating the OPCW website; conducting social media monitoring; drafting posts and preparing visuals for social media; supporting multimedia production (graphics, photography, video); organising group visits and tours; coordinating responses to public information queries from journalists and the public; supporting engagement with civil society; and developing analytics reports.
Requirements: enrolled in and having completed at least one year of a university degree programme (or equivalent) or a graduate programme, or having graduated within a year prior to the internship start; citizen of an OPCW Member State; fluent written and spoken English. Training in communications, journalism, marketing, copywriting, multimedia, design or a related field. A good working knowledge of another official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is desirable.
Remuneration: 540 EUR. Interns bear their own travel, visa, accommodation and living costs, work no more than 40 hours a week, and must provide proof of sufficient financial means.
