The National Geographic Society Advancement team identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards individuals and foundation, government, and corporate partners who invest in the Society to support science, technology, education, exploration, and storytelling. The Annual Giving Membership (AGM) team designs and executes a high-impact fundraising and stewardship program through integrated, data-driven marketing and communications campaigns across multiple channels. Reporting to the Director of Membership, the Senior Specialist will contribute to the Contributing Membership program through ownership of and collaboration on production, data, budget and other areas, helping the Membership team meet its growing revenue goals for acquisition and retention while contributing to stewardship and engagement efforts across the AGM team.
Responsibilities include:
- Campaign Production & Project Management (65%): manage implementation of recurring direct mail and email marketing and stewardship campaigns, including processes, timelines and deliverables; liaise between Digital, Operations, Campus & Experiences, Communications and external partners; lead editorial quality assurance and proofing with vendors; ensure systems, workflows and processes operate effectively; develop and maintain project documentation, SOPs and best practices.
- Program Improvement and Creative Thinking (15%): finalize AGM data selects, segmentation, printing and shipping for cross-channel campaigns; validate audience pulls; identify process improvements and donor management innovations; build testing and creative priorities for engaging, retaining and stewarding members.
- Operations, Budget & Resource Management (15%): maintain budget tracking documents to support financial reporting and forecasting; manage inventory of program materials, supplies and premiums; distribute status reports and schedules to keep the AGM team aligned.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree; four years in nonprofit fundraising, including experience creating effective direct mail campaigns; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented and highly organized, able to manage multiple projects; strong analytical, vendor management and relationship management skills; competency in MS Office or Google Workspace. Working knowledge of Raiser's Edge (or similar) database preferred. No direct reports.
Hybrid role at Base Camp in Washington, DC (Tuesdays and Wednesdays on site). Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available. Salary range: $71,250 - $75,000.
