Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is one of Germany's largest private aid organizations, working toward a world without hunger ('Zero Hunger on a Healthy Planet'). Together with national and international partners, it responds to humanitarian crises and supports long-term solutions for the most vulnerable people.
The Head of Project is responsible for the effective management and implementation of projects in Kassala State, Sudan, ensuring activities are delivered on time, within budget and in line with Welthungerhilfe and donor requirements. The role oversees project coordination, planning, implementation and reporting, and ensures appropriate use of project funds, working closely with the regional office and partners to strengthen civil society and improve access to services for marginalized communities. The position starts 1 January 2027 with an initial one-year contract and good prospects for extension.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and implement the project(s) in line with donor requirements and Welthungerhilfe standards, including planning, monitoring, budgeting, logistics, finance and administration.
- Review and adapt project plans and budgets; report on progress, challenges and risks to the Country Director/Area Manager.
- Build and maintain relationships with donors and stakeholders across humanitarian, rehabilitation and development programming.
- Manage and recruit project staff in line with WHH leadership principles and policies; manage the project office where applicable.
- Implement WHH policies, including the project's security management system and crisis preparedness arrangements.
- Represent WHH with national and international stakeholders and strengthen networks with civil society, government, academia and partners.
- Support public relations and local visibility, and accompany visiting donors, head office staff and journalists.
- Contribute to country strategy development, strategic planning and Country Management discussions.
Requirements:
- Higher university degree in Agriculture, Project Management, Community Development, Social Sciences or a related field.
- At least 7 years' professional experience in project coordination and management of project expenditure/plans with an international organization.
- Experience in planning, leading and coordinating with partners at field level.
- Experience managing teams and working with donor-funded projects.
- Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Access) are mandatory.
- Strong spoken and written English is mandatory; knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
